Virginia State University

Virginia State University

The Department of engineering consists of Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Computer Science programs that offer ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science degrees. These programs prepare students for careers in industry and for further study in engineering graduate programs.

All of the programs are committed to engineering innovation and interdisciplinary research. Our highly qualified faculty members challenge students to prepare for rapidly evolving fields of science and engineering through innovative curriculum and continuously educational process improvement.

Our close collaboration within the College of Engineering and Technology and with the university’s other excellent professional schools create rich options for research.

Our new engineering building with state-of-art lab equipment facilitates our research activities, as our students work together on projects in diverse areas such as:

robotics,
sustainable energy, and
automotive.

In addition to the research-oriented learning environment on campus, our engineering students benefit from the University's proximity to many area industrial facilities, including Rolls-Royce, DuPont, Honeywell, Dominion Power, Alstom, and Altria.

Our Mission

The Department of Engineering's mission is to specifically promote and sustain Bachelor of Science degree programs which meet the needs of industry and society, particularly in Central and Southside Virginia.
