CEE 5984: Legal Aspects of Civil Engineering

This is a 12 week summer course. This course will introduce students to common legal issues associated with the practice of civil engineering and related technical fields. Topics covered will include an introduction to: applicable administrative, legislative and judicial structures (including records/FOIA); the formation, interpretation, performance, and termination of contracts; tort/professional liability; construction law; environmental law; real property law; and risk management. Applicable policy and ethical issues, as well as current events and trends, will be addressed throughout the course, as appropriate.
